SHORES MDS

SHORES MDS is an industrial measurement organization that was founded in 2010 after the 2009 financial crisis. It was during this period when downstream operators were searching for ways to reduce project costs and increase execution efficiencies.

Dimensional control industrial measurement was then a staple in the execution of offshore both maintenance and construction projects when accuracy is imperative due to the implications involved an unsuccessful fit up however it was never then recognized as a way in which downstream operators could save money and improve quality.

SHORES MDS founded in California soon changed this belief and has since taken the technology to facilities across the us, successfully executing all sizes and complexity of projects.

TAR Support

Replacement Piping

A TAR was behind in getting construction packages complete and dimensionally verified for an upcoming project.

SHORES MDS was given work packages that the planning group compiled and was set the task of developing dimensional construction isometrics.

Using the automet system, all dimensions were quickly collected with isometrics detailing work scope complete with BOM and inspection details included.

These drawings were sent for fabrication and inspected by SHORES MDS prior to delivery.

End result. Zero installation errors.

Reactor Head Replacement

A reactor head was to be replaced during an FCC outage.

SHORES MDS verified the existing reactor to verify existing diameter and nozzle locations.

The new reactor head was verified to ensure there were no errors in nozzle location or in the diameter of the new head.

Cut lines were marked and verified where the General Contractor was to cut the existing head. After the head was cut the reactor was verified that the weld face was at the correct elevation and there were no alignment issues.

During the lift. SHORES MDS directed the field crew to ensure when the head was set down the orientation was correct.

Replacement Tower

A tower located in a facility in California was to be replaced in-kind.

SHORES MDS surveyed the tower to verify nozzle locations, attachment locations, and general dimensions.

A detailed drawing of the tower was developed and issued to our client detailing the dimensions of the new tower.

Once the new tower was fabricated SHORES MDS mobilized to the fabricator in the midwest to verify that the tower had been fabricated correctly.

It was found that one nozzle had been fabricated 37.5degrees out of position and that the upper flange had been set two holes instead of one hole as per the original tower.

The results were sent to the client who instead of reworking the new tower determined it was best to plan to rework the existing piping during the outage.

Providing this information prevented installation errors occurring during the outage and allow for modifications to be added to the work scope.
