SHORES MDS was originally founded in 2010 after the 2009 financial crisis when owner Derek Paterson was let go of his Piping Designer job in Carson (CA). After spending most of his career as a dimensional control surveyor Derek had spent two years working as a field designer where measurements were taken using tape measures and field welds added to piping at every change of direction.

Derek then found a job working in a design and documentation group where he walked projects documenting final project as-built conditions. Fortunately sitting next to the planning group, Derek suggested to a team member using Dimensional Control to execute projects. Next he was explaining to the project team lead how the concept worked and was invited to prove the concept worked.

At this point SHORES MDS was born. After a flawless TAR where all piping was installed free from any rework and after multiple further successful projects which included new pipe design and routing, replace in-kind piping, replacement exchangers to name a few the technology was quickly embraced by a national service contractor. A partnership opportunity was formed in 2011. At this point SHORES MDS as a business entitiy was temporarily put on hold.

Six years later in 2016 SHORES MDS was resurrected however it wasn't until 2019 when the opportunity presented itself that Derek felt the time was right to fully resurrect SHORES MDS.

Between 2011 and 2019 there has been hundreds of projects executed that range from single spool surveys through to module construction and mega project construction support. These projects will continue to be executed by SHORES MDS however it is the belief of SHORES MDS that if the industry is serious about recognizing the issue regarding shortage in the market of quality labor and the need to improve quality then the survey technology must be available to everyone to use.

SHORES MDS has an agreement with Mike Lloyd Technical Services where SHORES MDS can use and distribute the automet software. We shall provide equipment rental and training to ensure all projects can be executed free from and rework.
